Nicole 2.0
/Can I start every blog post with, It’s been a minute right?
Well it has been a minute, a whole hour even, so with that I thought I’d pull together another little blog post to update you guys on everything I’ve been up to recently.
First and foremost, it was recently my birthday, April baby and I turned 28! Or twenty-ATE as me and my friends call it. Although my younger cousin called me ‘old’, I feel like the years post 25 have just got better and better. Not only do I feel better and look better but I’m in a much better space in life and I love that for me. I had the best birthday with the best people, I managed to celebrate with my family, friends and boyfriend all in one weekend and of course, the sun was shining, like it always seems to on April 20th.
Moving on, what’s new?
Well, as you’ll be aware from my last blog post, I had a recent change in career and I kept it pretty quiet to begin with, but my IG tells all, so if you don’t know already, I’m the new Influencer Manager at boohooMAN. Staying within the fashion industry and more importantly streetwear, I moved into my new role last December and I’ve spent the last few months settling in. Not only have I been blessed with an amazing team, I’ve also been working on some amazing projects and some exciting ones, which I most definitely can’t speak about, but to say the least, it’s been fun.
As you’ll already know, events were a big part of my last role, I was travelling here, there and everywhere and my new role is pretty similar. Although I haven’t left the UK just yet, I have attended and worked on some pretty fun stuff. Let me fill you in.
One thing I must say about boohooMAN and the group in general, it’s much more glitz and glam than my previous role. I used to wear my favourite pair of Air Max to events before, whereas now I’m picking out my favourite pair of heels, something I never really used to do. I’ve kinda always hated wearing heels, being 5’8 (shoutout to my tall girlies) I’d always try put on a pair of trainers, even if I was dressed ‘up up’, but I must say, my heels collection is catching up with my kicks collection. I guess there are perks of having a boyfriend who is 6’3, because I still feel small next to him in my stilettos.
An event I recently attended which was for boohoo rather than boohooMAN, was the Molly Smith launch. Hosted at Fenix in Manchester, the guest list was made up of influencers, artists and other industry heads and it was so much fun. I finally had the chance to meet so many of the creators which I speak to daily from behind a laptop screen.. face to the name and all that.
Something I worked on recently was a content day for boohooMAN, where we select a number of influencers to attend an event with us, wear our latest collection and capture content for our socials. We invited 6 influencers to attend the Aintree Races with us for the opening day of the Grand National - something I’ve never been to before.
I have to say, I’m not the biggest fan of horse racing, I’m not really into animal sports, but it was really fun. We started the day with tequila shots, sorry… breakfast, at The Ivy in Manchester and then headed over to Liverpool for the big event. For once the sun was actually shining and the vibes were high. All the guys were suited and booted in our new tailoring collection - which of course you can shop on site, and they definitely caught the attention of the ladies at Aintree. Admit it ladies, we all love a man in a suit.
The team shot some great content which went live and viral and we finished the day with lunch and iced coffee before the ride back to Manchester - that’s my idea of a very nice day out *Gary Barlow voice*.
The change in career has been welcomed, I recently had a conversation with my Mum where I explained that life has changed so much in the last 12months, in all areas and I love it. It’s like Nicole 2.0, I feel older in the best way - grown shall we say, more sophisticated and happier with myself. Don’t get me wrong, I’m still a Nike Cortez queen, but I’m enjoying this version of me, I like her.
Speaking of trainers, I’m still podcasting every other week with the guys, Danny and Henry on the Sneaker Annexe Podcast, we still catch up via zoom and talk about the latest drops, our latest cops and whatever else is going on in the ‘sneaker world’. An exciting event for us is Laces Out in May, where we’re hosting a live podcast and allowing people to join in on our conversation. So add that one to your diaries sneaker heads.
Other than that, in the words of Future, life is good. I’m excited to plan some baecations this summer and see where the rest of the year takes us.
Until next time x
